Clarrel Pope will teach a class introducing the art of Kali, a Filipono Martial Art. Kali is a weapons based system that has a history that goes back hundreds of years, and besides its self defense applications, is extremely beneficial for coordination, balance, cardiovascular development and flexibility. It is wonderful for beginners to the martial arts. Come dressed comfortably with athletic shoes, and we will provide the rest.
About The Teacher:
Martial Artist and Stunt Performer/Fight Choreographer Clarrel Pope is an instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto in the Filipino Martial Arts and Jeet Kune Do, as well as a brown cord in Capoeira under Mestre Boneco (Beto Simas) of Capoeira Brasil and a Khru in Muay Thai with Ajarn Chai of the World Thai Boxing Assoc. Clarrel has brought his knowledge and abilities to the screen in the world of stunts by fight coordinating for the upcoming f ilm Shadow Force with Kerry Washington, Omar Sy, and Mark Strong. He has performed in movies such as Triple Frontier, Plane and Cry Macho, as well as, on television including Barry, SWAT, The Rookie, West World, SEAL Team, Mayans, On My Block, 911: Lonestar, Matador and Black*ish. Clarrel began martial arts when he was 5, doing Judo when his family was stationed in Japan for the US Navy. He earned his first black belt at the age of 11 in Tang Soo do. During is TSD training he competed in many tournaments winning multiple 1st place trophies and medals. In 1991 he was the AAU VA State Kata and Overall Points Champion. He is also has competed in 5 full contact Muay Thai kickboxing matches training under Ajarn Chai of the World Thai Boxing Association. In 1998 he earned instructorships for Kali and Jeet Kune Do under Guro/Sifu Dan Inosanto of the Inosanto Academy in Marina Del Rey. He has simultaneously trained the Brazilian Martial Art of Capoeira over 25 years under Mestre Boneco of Capoeira Brasil - LA. Clarrel started his stunt career in 2011, doubling Jaden Smith in the film After Earth. In addition to doubling roles, he is proficient in fights, falls, squib hits, stair falls, driving, ratchet and hand pulls to the floor and walls. He looks forward to using his 14 years of experience to one day stunt coordinate and 2nd unit direct. His goal in life is to positively influence kids through the martial arts & film. He currently lives in the San Bernardino Mountains with his wife and five children
